2018 NHL Entry Draft Top-31: Preliminary List

Sure, the 2017 NHL Entry draft just took place and we’re still a few months away from the start of the next NHL season, but this past week a number of the top prospects from the 2018 draft were in Toronto and on the ice for a showcase set up by their agent.

YouTube darling Rasmus Dahlin made the media rounds off the ice, while putting on a show for scouts on it. Dahlin’s is the name that comes up when casual fans talk about next summer’s NHL entry draft thanks to a litany of highlight gifs that have gone viral. Despite the fanfare, the fact remains that he likely isn’t even the top prospect in his class  – at this point, that honour goes to Andrei Svechnikov who is going to be playing with the Barrie Colts this season.

Whether it’s Dahlin or Svechnikov – or someone else like that jumps up to the top spot – next year’s draft definitely has more high-end impact talent than what we saw at the 2017 draft, especially when it comes to defensemen in the first round.

With that said, here is an early look at the top-31 prospects for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
